Improving Sleeping Habits – Conquering Sleeping Problems Can Be Done – I Did It Myself!

If you are having sleeping problems at night then you have to pay special attention to the things you do before going to bed.

You need to pay attention to:

Time you retire

Time you eat before going to bed

Last time you had something to drink, type of drink, and amount

What time of exercise and last time you did it before going to bed

Time you turned the TV off

Time you stopped playing with your computer

…any other type of activity that requires you to be wide awake.

The reason why you need to pay attention to the activities listed above is because you need sufficient time to relax. If you go to bed right after any of those activities, your brain will be active and cluttered.

I have experienced my share of sleeping difficulties in the past but I have been able to overthrow them by paying attention to what it is that bothers me. It took me a while to find a routine and when I did, it made a big difference in my sleeping pattern. I also found out that I was going to bed very early and becoming aware of this made a difference.

My bedtime used to be between 8:30 and 9:00 PM when I had to go to work the next day. I also found out that every time I did some activities, like watching TV for instance, would make my mind very busy and thought all night long about a specific show I watched (insomnia). That is not a good feeling because if you get any sleep, it feels like you where awake the whole night and you feel exhausted the entire day. Now my bedtime is at 10:00 but I turn the lights off between 10:45 and 11:00 PM.

My tribulations lasted for years and thought I was going to stay that way for ever but when things where getting out of hand, high blood pressure, palpitations, anxiety, bad mood, fatigued all the time, that’s when I decided to make some modifications.

I worried a lot (stress) and that was one of the major problems that affected me. I learned how to overcome my worries by finding something positive out of every negative and concentrated on the positive. It takes a lot of effort but it can be done.

I quit caffeine, period. You should keep away from it too. Get in the habit of drinking decaffeinated products. No matter how exhausted I am, I refuse to drink goods loaded with caffeine. Last time I had a high dose of caffeine was 17 years ago. I get little doses when I take little bites of chocolate from time to time but not sufficient to bother me.

Everybody is unique and you need to develop your own bedtime routine.

This is my routine:

I quit watching TV at 10:00 if I have to go to work the next day. If I am off, then I go to bed as late as midnight.

I stop playing on the computer between 9:00 and 9:30

Last time I eat is at 7. I try to but some times I find myself eating past 8. Not good for digestion but I am working on it.

Last time I drink a lot of fluids is at 6:30 and if I am thirsty, I take little sips from then on. If I drink a lot past that time, then I have to get up in the middle of the night and this should be avoided.

I go to bed right at 10:00. Reading makes me sleepy so I take a book and read it for 30 to 45 minutes depending what time my wife comes to bed; She too has her own routine. By the time she comes to bed, I am sleepy. I get up to brush my teeth, go to the restroom one last time, and when I get back to bed, we converse for a few minutes. Then I turn off the lights and I fall sleep, according to her, in few minutes.

Sleeping problems as a result of stress and anxiety disorders affect millions of people and a lot of them depend on sleeping pills. I tried a few sleeping aids myself at one time but refused to stay on them. If you are having sleeping problems yourself, you too can overcome them just like I did.

Please, Say It’s Not True That Coffee Is That Bad For Me?

Sorry to be the guy to burst your bubble, but yes it’s true coffee might be long term one of the top 5 worst beverages you can possibly drink. This is why we would strongly recommend you seek out and find a truly viable coffee alternative.

Why is coffee so bad for me?
Well, let’s take a look at this problem just one at a time.
1. It causes your body to make too much acid. While producing enough stomach acid to properly digest your foods is a good thing. Over production of systemic acids is a very bad thing. Think for a moment if you will about the word Acid! What do you think of when you dwell upon the word. Usually nothing all that pleasant, right? Well no think about each and every cell in your body floating in a bath of this acid. It can be very damaging to your cells to be sure. And what damages your cells damages you.
Yet another fantastic reason to seek out that coffee alternative we mentioned earlier eh?

2. Sugar- How many people drink their coffee black? I don’t know the exact count but it has to be very, very low. So, most people likely even yourself included put sugar in their coffee or worse yet a chemical sweetener. This means that your unbalancing your blood sugars or consuming pure chemicals. Yes I know they have decreed that they are safe but cigarette ads used to feature Doctors telling you which brand they smoked and that it was ok to do so. we all know that smoking has its own set of dire consequences.
To come to grips why sugar is so bad all you have to do is Google “sugar bad for me” and you will find 1000′s of references to keep you busy for a very long time.

3. Most people don’t use Organic coffee. We buy our coffee from 3rd world countries agreed? Think about this, do you think they are using the most high tech bug spray that “may” not be toxic or the cheapest stuff that will kill bugs they can get their hands on. And we all make this into a concentrated hot beverage 1st thing in the morning usually even before we start with food. Once again a very strong reason to go check out some coffee alternatives as soon as possible.

It’s of course up to you what you wish to do with your health. But you may wish to take a serious look at the long term dangers associated with the consumption of coffee.
