The Body, Mind And Spirit Of Yoga
For many years, I have been a yogi from afar. I have studied it, subscribed to yoga magazines, went to classes sporadically as well as prescribed it to patients. It has been yesteryear year that has gotten me to actually live yoga.
Many people think about yoga as a form of exercise. It is that but so much more. Yoga is a way of life. The precise origination is unclear however the earliest evidence points towards the East, around 3000 BC, in India. In the beginning, it appears that yoga was a more outwardly focused mental and spiritual practice which looked outside the self and also at understanding the world. It later changed to more of a focus about the self and self enlightenment through the transcendence of the ego. Later, the postures and stances that we have come to identify as ‘yoga’ were added like a vital a part of a practice. Today, it is most commonly found that a yoga practice encompasses three components: breathing, meditation, and postures
I would like to draw the analogy between these three components and the three distinct parts of us: body, mind and spirit.
1. Body – obviously, this is the postures. Like the body, or vehicle by which we’re experiencing life, the postures would be the best way a lot of people experience yoga. Although life changing for most, this can be a very limited experience. It might be like practicing a marathon without having done much stretching. Having trained for a marathon such as this previously, I discovered the experience was wonderful but again, limited. I see us as spiritual beings having a physical experience but to only experience the physical a part of something similar to yoga so limits us and the experience.
2. Mind- I would analogize this part towards the breathing a part of yoga. Many people I’ve spoken with experience a continuing mental dialogue, more often than not. Although necessary sometimes, it can get confusing and limiting. When focused on optimal breathing- expand belly on inhalation, press belly button toward back on exhalation while inhaling to some count of four and exhaling to a count of 4- it is difficult to do much else else (especially think) at the same time. Try it. You might not be able to get it done at first however , you will be able to – with more experience. And you will always return to it to quiet your mind, when you are all stressed out.
3. Spirit- this I would link with the mediation element of yoga. Individuals have many excuses because of not trying to meditate – it’s too hard, occupies too much time, it’s too religious or we simply have no idea how to do it. Meditation, to me, is a focused understanding of nothing. This state are only able to be reached having a quiet mind- that the breathing allows us to to achieve. I love small, practical, attainable steps as measures of progress. Try focusing on nothing for just two minutes a day, around the same time every day. If you’re able to do it consistently for 5 days, add 1 minute. Keep adding 1 minute for every consistent 5 days and will also be meditating for Twenty minutes before very long!
Two wonderful reasons for yoga are that the yoga practice is perfect wherever it is today and also the process is usually more important compared to final goal because that is where you are today. With the ultimate goal of the yoga practice to become aware of nothing we, these days, have a significant job ahead of us if we choose to seriously practice and live a yogic life.

Natural Exercise Mats: What You Should Know
More and more yoga enthusiasts are dumping their old mats in favor of a natural yoga mat. These mats promise many benefits over traditional mats, but before you throw away your old mat, first learn about the pros and cons of natural yoga mats. What you don’t know might not hurt you, but it will certainly disappoint you.
If you’re like most people who enjoy fitness and exercise, you probably spend a considerable amount of time lying on your old-style rubber mat. Of all the exercise equipment you own, it’s probably the only one that you regularly rub up against and smell. When you think about it, you’re inordinately familiar with that old, smelly mat.
Getting a new workout mat is always a scary proposition. You shudder to ask yourself:
Will it reek like an explosion at a chemical plant?
Will it roll up like a window shade every time I try to lay it out flat?
Will I slip and slide like a drunken penguin on its slick new surface?
With a natural yoga mat, those concerns are moot. Be design, they do away with some of the limitations of an old-style rubber mat:
They’re made of jute or hemp so they don’t outgas scary and obnoxious chemical smells.
Their natural fibers don’t curl up like rubber.
They’re not slick and slippery, even when you are sweating.
However, natural yoga mats often take some getting used to:
The comforting “cushion” effect that you have grown accustomed to is gone. These mats are firm, with little to no “give”.
They can be hard on your knees, the points of your hips, and your spinal processes.
When used on uneven or rough surfaces, the underlying protuberances will jutpoke through, making for an uncomfortable session.

Eco-friendly exercise mats:
If natural yoga mats are not your thing, you have another option. Eco-friendly yoga mats are very simililar to older, rubber exercise mats, but they are made from newer, safer materials that don’t outgas. As a bonus, they are easier to recycle.
One of the main features of these items is the lack of harsh chemicals. You won’t find PVC, lead, or pthalates in any of these workout mats.

How To Increase Your Energy Levels With Some Aerobic Exercises
How’s the weight looking these days? Is the bathroom scale taunting you relentlessly? You know what; I’ll bet it’s flat out lying to you.
Scales have a tendency to do that, right? Okay, this is highly unlikely. But don’t you ever feel that way? Our weight tends to fluctuate up and down, but it never seems to reach that low number we’re looking for. One day you think you dropped four pounds, but the next day it’s right back on. Now, you could scowl furiously at the scale, and chuck it out the bathroom window. Or you could just adopt a good exercise regime. The latter may be a more health option. What you need is a new and improved diet plan and good aerobic exercises.
How often do you exercise? This is an important question that everyone should be asking themselves. Fitness is a key factor in staying healthy and living well. You want to live well, right? Of course, we all want to live hospital-free lives. Therefore good habits must be acquired, and at a youthful age if possible. It’s always prudent to start earlier, rather than later. In recent years my wife and I decided to better our diet. We are slim folks, but that is not the only aspect to consider. Just because you’re always slim, doesn’t mean you’re always healthy. Poor eating habits can take its toll on your body and mind. Plus we want our children to adopt healthy eating routines as well. In addition to a proper diet, we all began exercising more. This is something all human beings want to consider. Your body can really go down hill if you fail to ever use it. Sitting in a chair in a cubicle everyday doesn’t help much. What we all need are some decent aerobic exercises. These are what get the heart pumping and muscles working. You not only burn calories, but you make your body stronger. With regular aerobic exercises, you also increase your energy levels. This is ideal if you are a busy-body like me. I think it’s safe to say that we could all use some more energy. The sad truth is that so many individuals don’t know that energy depends on diet and exercise. These are crucial factors, folks.
Are you in search of some great aerobic exercises? Well, if this is the case, maybe you want to give the World-Wide-Web a shot. The Internet has a deluge of diet plans, workout regimes, and aerobic exercises to choose from. It’s as easy as punching in a quick Google search.

Why Home Fitness Equipment?
If you wish to stay healthy even if you are in the prime of your age, the secret is having a great physical condition by eating the right, healthy food and undergoing cardio exercise. Having a sedentary lifestyle is never good to adult individuals, and even to younger ones. Aside from never allowing your body to function properly, you age faster than those working out to stay physically fit. For many people who can no longer manage the rigorous training exercise and rigid workouts in a gym find home fitness program better choice in a bid to stay healthy and physically good.
Why You Should Have Fitness Equipment at Home
One of the good reasons why you have to maintain your physical fitness and healthy body is to avoid tripping frequently to the doctor’s office and paying expensive medical bills. It also makes you active in anything you do and especially to your work. A healthy and physically fit body makes you look more confident and smarter. Having fitness equipment at home will help you maintain that condition without the inconveniences of going outside to do the same exercise.
With fitness equipment designed to be operated and used at homes, you no longer have maintain membership fee at a gym, which could be quite relatively expensive. You might look at some fitness equipment as costly too; however, most are cheaper and affordable now. Besides that, even if it is still quite expensive as compared to how much you can afford, you will find having one at home is a lot cheaper if you think how much you save compared to a yearly cost on the gym’s membership.
The fitness industry has undergone transition in the past years, and gone are the days when you get bounded by limited time and use because the gym doesn’t operate 24 hours a day. With the handy exercisers, you can work out any time, any place, and at all weather conditions. Most home fitness equipments are lightweight, handy, portable, and sometimes trendy so you can actually bring one when you travel or to your office so you can still use at your spare time.
There are choices when it comes to home fitness equipments. Exercise bikes, elliptical trainer, exercise balls, sit-up machine, and tummy exerciser are just some to name a few. These are generally affordable and help you exercise with convenience at home. The good thing about most of these equipments is that there is typically no need to have different types as one machine is usually enough to workout the muscles of many parts of your body and to target your cardio fitness needs. Another advantage is these machines only require you to exert lesser rigorous fitness exercise.
But Fitness Equipment is not Enough
Although you might think about the goodness of having home fitness equipment, you must remember that the key to staying healthy and fit is to engage in a consistent and regular exercise. Not sticking to a regular exercise is not a good idea. If you want a sure way to getting slim and healthy, it is best to plan for a daily target. In addition, eating the right food and getting enough sleep will complete the need to accomplish your physical fitness goal.

Home Fitness Guides To Keep You Focused
It is common scenario for people to never complete a diet program they initially took with the goal of trimming up after calories and fats were collected from a bad lifestyle. Similarly, it is common for people to start using home fitness equipment and then leaving the machine up collecting dust at the corner because they have forgotten it.
Why not all people can stick to what they primarily embarked upon to improve their physical and health aspect? First, it is because of the lack of discipline. Second, focus was directed elsewhere maybe due to boredom, lack of determination and goal. And third, the lack of proper diet and fitness program – a carefully planned guide which you can utilize to easily see your direction and accountability of every result.
If you are in the same boat, you are probably looking once again for another program where you think you can put your focus on for a long time and thus gives you realistic results of keeping yourself in tip top shape, both physical and inner health. However, even with home fitness program, you have the chance to succeed in your goal provided that you have the discipline, the right program, and focus or determination.
To help define what you really want in this particular aspect, here are some simple yet effective guides to keep you focused, determined, and disciplined and stick to your home fitness routine in a lifelong basis.
- If the home fitness plan happens to be your resolution for this year, don’t just think of it as a resolution for the whole year. Or don’t make it a resolution that benefits you for only a few months, or even for a year.
Rather, make it your lifetime resolution. Think of the long term benefits and think how it can give you a lifelong health and physical fitness. Think how it will be easier for you to live life as you age. That’s how a fitness and diet program should be. Long term goals are often easier and lighter to follow than fitness programs for short term effects.
* It is not necessary to spend hours and hours working out. A mere 30 minutes a day is enough to keep you fit and in shape. And remember that it doesn’t have to be with exercise equipment or machine. There are lots of other activities which can get your muscles working out, like dancing, jogging, brisk walking, and even when doing household chores and running errands. Also, you can buy exercise and yoga DVDs so you can use them at home.
* And this is the most important – eat healthily, rest properly, and avoid getting into disastrous vices such as smoking and drinking. You don’t have to eat fancy, healthy foods which you cannot easily prepare for some reasons. And you don’t have to be strict with this aspect. Just remember to count the calories you take in.
* Also, consider this goal as a gift to your family and loved ones. Taking care of yourself is an ultimate act that tells you actually care for them. It gives them less of the worries, lesser expenses on medical bills, and the likes. Plus, being healthy, fit, and active means you can give more time to bond with them by engaging in family physical activities.

Vital Home Fitness And Diet Program Tips For You
Many people engage in a new diet or exercise program in hopes of slimming down and getting a healthy body. However, not all stick to it and most find themselves falling off the program and getting back to the old way. This is common to individuals who engage in home fitness programs or those who have a self-planned diet program. But the problem is not where the diet or fitness program is attempted. The trouble is the fact that most of these people do not have the right and proper program being followed.
You Need a Plan for a Fitness or Diet Program
No matter what endeavor one is taking, a well-designed plan is the key to achieving it. If you don’t have any strict guide to give you the right steps, it is difficult to accomplish anything. Attempting a new health diet and fitness program will never succeed if there is no strict plan, as without it, there is neither direction nor accountability to everything that you are doing. And it applies regardless of whether it is done at a gym center, at home, or even at the office.
Therefore, most of your actions, and results, if there is any, are unfocused and random. It results to an element of vagueness, where instead of being confident that you are doing the right thing you are simply guessing at what you should do and what achievement you will get. Another disadvantage is there is always a high tendency to expect high results. This is particularly true to people who embark on a new fitness and diet program. Fast results are often anticipated that it becomes unrealistic, which of course, end up only to disappointment and frustration.
Design a Long-Term Goal
If you are a home fitness fan, you simply don’t buy exercise equipment. You simply don’t use it to burn your calories and maintain your body in tip top shape only to find out afterwards you are gaining and becoming unhealthy again because you got bored with your routine and thus had stopped. You don’t eat whatever it is that your stomach and mouth are craving. The food intake works hand in hand with your workout plan to give you realistic results. You also don’t simply shove the equipment at a corner of your house whenever you don’t feel like working out.
It is important to remember that even though a home fitness program has more advantages than enrolling in a health and gym center, a carefully planned guide and discipline is a must to achieve results. If your goal is short-term, you are never going to live a well-balanced and healthy lifestyle. Therefore, making use of a home fitness program should not just be a short-term but a long-term goal that focuses on your overall health and well-being. The plan must be included with what food you should intake and how much rest you should have.
The time when you workout must be regular and has a routine, whether daily or several times a week. Keeping a checklist with you will help what direction you are going and how much accomplishment is received. To define your goal, you need to set straight what is it that you want and if you can stick to a specific home fitness and diet program for a long time without giving it up if you got bored. By knowing what you want, it will be easier for you to define the elements needed in attaining lifelong fitness and health.

Low Calorie Cooking And Exercise – The Miracle Diet?
With all the fad diets taking over our televisions, bookstores, and pantries, many people have forgotten the basics of healthy living. When you are busy counting carbs, calculating fat grams, and popping diet pills, perhaps you should consider that the “miracle” diet may very well be the oldest one in the book. Low calorie cooking and exercise may very well be the secret to weight loss and healthy living.
A few decades ago, few people knew what a carb was. However, everyone knew that you were supposed to eat a healthy, balanced diet. Now, however, low calorie cooking has been replaced with complicated recipes with hard-to-find ingredients, all in the name of weight loss. How did this get so complicated? Is it possible that you can lose weight without an advanced degree in physics?
The real key to weight loss and healthy living is low calorie cooking and exercise. Most people have one of two problems with this method. One, it seems too easy, or two, it does not magically make weight disappear.
Although people may say they want an easy solution to weight loss, the truth is the complicated methods make people feel like they are accomplishing something. If it is as simple as lowering calories, people are not constantly reminded of what they are doing, so it seems like they are doing nothing. This coupled with the second reason, it does not make weight magically disappear, makes people assume it does not work. People want to look in the mirror the day after starting a diet and see a difference. They want a manifestation of the hard work and effort they are putting forth. However, few long-term solutions make a difference that quickly. Low calorie cooking and exercise are not capable of getting you into skinny jeans in a week, but the real goal should be long-term health and fitness.
How do you incorporate low calorie cooking into a diet based in deep-fried food and sweets? The first step is to reduce the grease and sugar. You do not have to give it up completely, but make it a rare treat instead of a staple in your diet. When cooking your regular recipes, replace ingredients with healthier alternatives or low calorie counterparts. For example, use low fat cheese and milk and veggies whenever possible.
You can also get exercise into your everyday activities. Park in the far parking places at work or at the grocery store and opt for the stairs instead of the elevator. Every little bit helps get you into shape.

Home Fitness-How To Choose The Right Exercise Equipment
As easy as it may seem, buying exercise equipment takes a lot of considerations. Let us look at the factors that really matter when making a purchase:
Determine your goal
The entire process of selecting which type of exercise equipment is right for you and how much do you need to spend for it relies on what goals you wish to accomplish along with your current fitness level. So before selecting one or limiting yourself to which treadmill or elliptical trainer is right for you, ask yourself, “What do I want to achieve?” Do you wish to improve your cardiovascular health? Do you want to develop strength? Do you wish to boost your energy? Such questions, when answered right away would lead you to identifying which type of equipment do you really need.
Set your Budget
The second, most important thing you need to determine is how much you are willing to spend on a particular type of home fitness equipment. Different types of exercise equipment have varying costs. A good treadmill costs from $1500 to $3500. An elliptical trainer ranges from $200 to $5000. A stationary bike ranges between $500 and $1000. The old adage, “you get what you pay for” still applies here so make sure that you balance between affordability, features and usability.
Note:
Not because you can use your credit card to purchase a thousand dollar elliptical trainer or a $3000 treadmill means that you can afford it. Study your financial position and know exactly how much you can spend on a certain purchase.
Space
Aside from your goal and budget, the 2 other equally important things to remember when purchasing exercise equipment are: to test the equipment and to measure the size of the equipment. While the former is somewhat automatic, the latter is often overlooked, simply because when you are at the store, it is hard to tell if the equipment will really fit in to your available space. So consider the space needed for the equipment. (This applies whether you have a home gym whole room or just a small space in the living room.)
Shop Around
A wise shopper does not settle in one store. Visit at least 2 stores to compare prices of the same equipment. It also pays to do your research online so that you are armed with the right information about a particular product you are eyeing at. Read product reviews whenever it is available.
Do not be deceived
People will do everything to make a sale. So if you see TV ads saying that you can lose several inches off your waist or lose several pounds after a week, don’t fall prey. Yes, they sound too good to be true, and they are. Quick-fix products with “before” and “after” testimonials may be too attractive but remember this: bodies do not change radically after a number of sessions. Because if it does, everyone who desires to have a six-pack abs or who wants to lose pounds upon pounds of weight should be contented right now.
Consider all the cost
Transportation, shipping, installation and other extra charges can pile up easily. So before buying one, make sure that you take note all these charges so that you will be ready for the total amount that you have to pay.

Home Fitness On A Budget
Busy schedule has prompted most to do their fitness routines outside the confines of a commercial fitness center. But that is not the only reason why many do not enroll to a gym anymore. Budget has now become one of the main reasons why for some, it is most practical to exercise at home. Here are some of the things you can do to stay in shape without having to pay for a membership and spend time commuting to your gym.
Hiking
Contrary to what most people think, hiking is not a weekend activity. And not because you carry a backpack that can hold all your survival stuffs means that you have to stay overnight on the trail. Hiking can be a regular exercise routine, which can be done several hours a day on your free day, especially if live near hiking parks and trails. Hiking is free and can burn as much as 550 calories per hour.
Walking. Jogging. Running.
Putting on your rubber shoes and going around the neighborhood may not be as adventuresome as hiking in parks and trails, but you can still get almost the same health benefits and physical fitness. A good hour of walking can burn up to 380 calories. Jogging and running can burn much more than that.
However, the main disadvantage of walking around the neighborhood is you cannot do it all throughout the year. When the weather is bad or if the winter season has begun, you cannot simply go out and run around the neighborhood (this is the reason why treadmill is so popular). Still, it is still better to maximize the warm days by walking or jogging around the neighborhood than just sitting on your couch and do nothing. Plus, it is free.
Home DVDs
Over the past years, home videos have vastly improved creating quality and very useful training techniques that often require little or no equipment. From $10 to $30, you can get professionally made workout DVD regardless of your fitness level. Take note: do not be too concerned of the celebrities that endorse these products. What you should be looking out for is if the instructional video is created by a credible fitness professional.
Use your existing exercise machine.
It is estimated that 80% of exercise equipment bought in the United States is not used after the first year. This stunning figure only equates to one thing: if you are consider buying new exercise equipment, you are more likely to stop using it after some time. And if you have bought one before, you probably still have it somewhere in your house. That leaves us to the question, do your really need to buy a new one? If you already have existing equipment and if it is functioning well, use it again. There’s nothing wrong with using old exercise equipment. What is wrong is actually buying a new one knowing that you can still use something.
Buy the basics
Having a treadmill or an elliptical trainer at home is cool but that doesn’t mean that you must buy one. Remember that they only simulate activities you can do outdoors so you can always choose to forego buying any one of these if you cannot afford to buy one. Just buy the basics like weights, exercise mat and exercise ball. They all provide various workout techniques but do not cost as much.
