Why Fear Holds You Back From Enjoying Your Life.

Do you feel like your life is being held back by fear? If you do then you are one of many people whom never quite achieve the greatness or the potential they have because fear is holding them back. One of the biggest obstacles people have in this life is fear – fear of failure being the most common. Fear may be preventing you from making positive changes. Below are some of the most common ways that fear can hold you back:

Fear of positive changes.

Perhaps you have always dreamed about owning your own home but the thoughts in your head whenever you consider are not – what color do I want to paint the walls. But instead the thoughts are – what a huge responsibly, I don’t think I can handle it, the mortgage, the insurance etc. Perhaps; just like most people in this world, you are a little dissatisfied or even deeply unhappy with your job. But the thought of looking for and applying for a new one fills you with dread or makes you feel uncomfortable or even nervous – this is fear holding you back!

Fear can prevent you from breaking destructive habits.

Destructive habits, also known as addictions are hard to beat, but what you may not realize is that a large part of the reason you struggle to defeat habits is because of fear. Alcohol abuse, smoking, drug abuse and poor dietary choices such as chocolate addiction all lead to major health problems. Yet we still often cannot manage without them because in some way or another they either calm or nerves or make us feel good for a short while. The fear of living without the thing that your brain is telling you makes you feel better is the very thing that makes you anxious enough to need it.

Fear can prevent you from taking necessary risks.

A few classic examples of this are trying to start a new relationship or investing money. No doubt you were in some way hurt in your previous relationship and the fear of being hurt again is holding you back, or if you are looking for someone then the fear of rejection is holding you back. Investing money in a project or a business can seem very daunting or even very risky; the fear of losing your investment could be holding you back from a great idea and high rewards.

Of course there are many failures out there, but fear should not hold you back from taking a calculated risk. You should analyze opportunities before jumping in – but fear should not be the deciding factor, what many people forget is the feeling of joy and excitement if you succeed with the investment or the relationship you sought out has worked out for you.

Fear can prevent you from pursuing your goals.

Suppose you always wanted to be an author, maybe you know that you can write well and have a ton of good ideas but are too afraid to start – maybe no-one will like it? Okay, that’s a possibility, but what if people do like it? Think of what you have missed out on if your novel is well received. Or maybe you know you’re quite funny and dream of being a stand-up comedian, but the fear of public speaking is holding you back.

Fear can prevent you from expanding your life.

Social anxiety is another common way that fear can limit your potential. It may prevent you from attending networking functions so your career or business can’t grow properly, or you may avoid taking that much needed vacation to relax and explore other cultures because you fear flying or being on a cruise ship.
